THE MARTIN CITY ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
25 Years of
Goin’ Green 1987 –
2012
What started out as little more than a whim has
come a
long way in 25 years ...
On a frigid St. Patrick’s Day in 1987, three Martin
City leaders grabbed
friends, two cars and a horse & buggy, and held an
impromptu St.
Patrick’s Day "parade" down 135th Street.
Everyone had a good laugh but
next year they did it again. And again. As the years wore on
the parade
grew and grew and the rest, as they say, is history.
On March 11, 2012, the Martin City St. Patrick’s Day
parade will mark
its 25th Anniversary. The event this year will celebrate the
past years
of fun, community spirit and celebration. In fact, a full
day of Irish
family fun is again planned for downtown Martin City. From
11 a.m. –
4:00 p.m. Plan on staying after the parade and enjoying an
“Irish”
dinner at one of our restaurants.
Pre parade activities include:
The Prince and Princess Contest
(Ages 2–7 yrs.)
The Best Dressed Pet Contest
Faulkner Ranch Kiddie Korral
(Ages 10 & under)
Face Painting
(All ages!)
Food & Beverage Vendors
The Kansas City Police Department Information Tent
DJ Jeff Holmes – rockin’ all day
Our event has long been known as "the biggest little
fun parade in
Kansas City!" The parade itself will kick off at 2 p.m.
with 65+ entries
once again marching across 135th Street to celebrate a
great Martin
City tradition. This year’s theme is 25 Years of
Goin’ Green in honor of
our anniversary.
The uniqueness of the Martin City St. Patrick’s Day
Parade is a source
of pride for the Martin City Business & Community
Association and
its merchants and many of the local citizens. With this full
day of
family fun, we hope that you, your family and friends will
come and
rediscover what Martin City is all about.
So, make plans for Martin City on March 11, 2012, and be
sure to wear
your green!
